Repost of the preceding message

Your report is somewhat too bare for me to use. Could you:
  1. Be more precise on what version you tested, how you installed the data, and what are your settings (controls, audio buffer etc...)?
  2. Check the files stderr.txt and stdout.txt found in the Wormux folder (should be /sdcard/Wormux)
  3. If you can, report the messages printed in adb logcat when the crash occurs

Thanks.

r8547 now available, which requires downloading again data. Not much time to list the changes, but basically, simplified (and made alas uglier) the minimap to speed up things. This should lead to no performance improvement given that I switched to plain old armv5 build (armv6 was causing strange bugs, which are Android's fault).

Here's the latest version, r8707, which requires redownloading data.
A very short summary of the changes:
- force screen on (in particular during the initial download, meaning alas 10 minutes of screen on for nothing)
- speed improvements; there are so few of them left that no great improvement is to be expected
- added a benchmark to validate performance values; I may probably change the parameters because it is very taxing
- team messages and character names are now colored according to the team; this also affects chat messages (first controlled team color used)
- fix camera jumping around
- fix bug where a character could get stuck in the ground
- fix bug where a shot from a character close to a wall could blow immediately
- improved water rendering
- fix some bugs causing excessive memory usage (could cause crashes)

I think this will be the last investigation on speed. I will focus on user reports, and see about a Market release.

Note: while my spica easily reaches 30fps without sound, benchmark is more around 11fps, and score is 3300.

I tested the latest version on my HTC Magic again.
Compared to the version before there is a noticable performance improvement. 6 vs 6 on the Qinq-Qonq map runs on quite smooth 15 fps most of the time. With explosions the fps drop to 10, i did not notice them falling under 10 on this map. Max FPS I reached where 20 on the highest paper plane.
Respect for the work.

Btw: The post about Wormux on Android in my blog is #3 most viewed article :p

If you release it on the market I will give it a new post and a news on android-hilfe.de

Some further news: an optimization in the graphical rendering library we use brought another 5-10% speed improvement. However, this also explains why some devices are very slow: the amount of data to transfer from the CPU to the GPU is too important.

But nowadays, we are really focusing in adding more help screens and adding controls for touch-only controls.

Updated to r8900. Main changes:
  • New control interface for touch-only control: click on the menu wind indicator to switch between it and the classical interface
  • Some speed improvement (around 10%)
  • Lots of new help images

This is probably the last version before starting the beta cycle.

Edit: you must update the data package.

Sorry, we are about to release warmux 10.12 (in 2 weeks), so I'm not pursuing the beta builds for now.

I decided to not try and investigate for now the following problems all important:
- download
- put to background

This is great. I got my new LG Optimus Speed a week ago. Finally I can enjoy Warmux on it. 50 FPS on Aquarium map, no slow downs caused by explosions. Warmux on Android is nice :D

Nice! As far as I know, all recent devices perform extremely well.

I don't know if the code was really improved, but there's an example of a Nexus One running at around 7000 in benchmark with the alpha (and probably Android 2.1 or 2.2 at the time). It now is 14000... A Motorola Defy reaches 17000 thanks to its larger display.

If you didn't notice, it is now available on the market. I'm struggling with application freeze on some devices (xperia mini, desire hd), no idea what is happening.

The LG Optimus Speed reaches 23322 in the benchmark :)
By the way, what you've done to the controls is very nice!

Mc Flow: will add this to the market info. Your score is impressive. I would have prefered more intuitive controls, but it's hard to even have a workable idea, not even implementing it and having it please people!

Thanks for the feedback.

btw, is that the market version or the one available for download here?

I'm planning to release this version to the market under the version name 11.04; this is completely compatible with 11.04 except it fixes one network bug, and reimplements another fix included in the 2nd version on the market.
