Rationale

In particular because of external proofs of active IP rights enforcement, it seems dangerous to continue using our current name. It exposes us to severe risks, see passing off and more generally, trademark infringement.

While this seems dismissable as a far-fetched risk, this is a long standing issue that needs addressing, to end the problem once for all. In particular, it is a requirement for some targets.

Name candidates

Currently, there are various possibilities seen for a new name:

• Warmux: already favoured by some active members, as work (images) has already been performed.
• WarFM: War of the Free Mascotts
• ... (insert your own)

Be aware that there will be some secrecy in the decision: there are already risks of cybersquatting, and this should be avoided

Work to perform the transition

Some action points to perform:

• Help and contacts:
  • Find people that could help automate/fast-track our requests
  • Try to make generic work (for instance, change on all of Wikipedia pages)
  • Update here the list of contacts? (beware of name/email/etc harvesting)
• Self-referencing:
  • Domain name (beware of domain name squatting)
  • Change all such references in images, text files (help pdf, translations, source code) and website content
  • gna.org project page; active discussion with them seems required
  • Inform communities: forum, news post, linuxfr ?
• Outside referencing:
  • Build a list!
  • Wikipedia pages
  • Linux distributions: transitional packages etc
